Consultation on the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Future Framework Policy Statement

The Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications recently welcomed the opening of a consultation on the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Future Framework Policy Statement. The long-term model sets out the pathway Ireland will take to deliver at least 37GW of offshore renewable energy by 2050. 

The Future Framework looks beyond Ireland’s 2030 targets, including 21 key actions to develop a structured, long-term approach to offshore wind. The consultation aims to engage stakeholders to gain valuable market feedback in order to determine the final version of the ORE Future Framework.

Developed on economic opportunities to encourage investment and to maximise both economic and financial return of offshore renewable energy, the policy details the potential of exporting excess ORE through interconnection, and the use of surplus ORE for alternative energy products and services within the international market.

The final policy will be approved by the Government and co-published with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment’s National Industrial Strategy for Offshore Wind in the spring.
